Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Marc Bowditch studied Art and Architecture in Canada and Italy. He is presently based in Berlin, Germany and works primarily in watercolour.

 

Marc’s recent paintings oscillate between the poetic and the material. Preparation involves painting lines in veiled hues, then contouring, cutting and folding paper, discarding and adjusting, mounting and arriving at final assemblage. In the completed works, signs of manufacture withdraw, leaving restless and ecstatic colour fields of translucent pigment that engage revery and imagination. This diaphanous medium is delicate and precise, but it’s function here is to modify surface and space so that proximity of colour suggests a formal construction as much as a state of emotive coincidence.

Marc has participated in group shows in London, Amsterdam and Hong Kong.
